Agenda

On 16 March 2026, the European Enterprise Alliance held a closed-doors industry roundtable titled Industry Implementation of CBAM: Navigating the New Carbon Border Regime at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.

The event was hosted by EEA President Marcin Nowacki, who also serves as President of the EESC’s Section for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society (TEN) and Member of the Employers’ Group. Keynote addresses were delivered by Members of the European Parliament Adam Jarubas (EPP) and Alexandr Vondra (ECR), who shared their insights as informed by their participation as Shadow Rapporteurs on the European Parliament Report “on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EU) 2023/956 as regards simplifying and strengthening the carbon border adjustment mechanism”.

Special remarks were delivered by the European Commission’s Vicente Hurtado Roa (Deputy-Director, Indirect Taxation & Tax Administration, DG TAXUD) and Ruben Vermeeren (Deputy Head of Unit, ETS (I): Policy Coordination, International Carbon Markets, DG CLIMA) who provided a further policymaking perspective. This was then followed by a panel of industry representitives sharing their experiences and recommendations for navigating CBAM.

Discussions such as this one are crucial for ensuring EU policy is shaped with the interests of businesses in mind, so that European competitiveness is not impeded.
