On 15 January 2026, the European Enterprise Alliance (EEA) and the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) held an expert roundtable discussion titled Roundtable Discussion on the Omnibus I Sustainability Simplification Package: Practical Implications for European Businesses at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was hosted by Tobiasz Bocheński, Member of the European Parliament, and welcomed by Kosma Złotowski, Member of the European Parliament.
The discussion focused on the Omnibus I Simplification Package and its role in strengthening European competitiveness by reducing administrative burdens linked to sustainability reporting and due diligence obligations. Particular attention was given to the recalibration of thresholds so that requirements primarily apply to the largest enterprises, while smaller companies are shielded from indirect or trickle-down compliance obligations.
Participants examined the practical implications of the package for day-to-day business operations, including how companies can adapt internal compliance processes and take advantage of a more streamlined regulatory framework. The exchange also addressed the implementation timeline and the importance of legal clarity to ensure that simplification efforts translate into tangible savings in costs and administrative time for European businesses.
The roundtable featured contributions from Piotr Zieliński (Policy Advisor, Committee on Legal Affairs, European Parliament), Anna Borys (Senior Director Government Relations Europe, McDonald’s), Matthijs Germs (EU Public Affairs Manager, Oatly), Karolina Telejko (Sustainability and Government Affairs Director, SAP), and Marcin Nowacki (President of the European Enterprise Alliance, President of the TEN Section and Member of the Employers’ Group of the European Economic and Social Committee). Their interventions reflected perspectives from EU institutions, large and medium-sized enterprises, and business organisations on how Omnibus I can contribute to a more proportionate and business-friendly regulatory environment in Europe.
