Event Details

On 23 June 2025, the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) hosted a high-level debate titled “Europe on the Road to Safe and Affordable Energy” at the European Parliament Office in Warsaw. The event convened policymakers, energy experts, and industry leaders to assess the future of the EU’s energy security and competitiveness within the broader context of climate policy and regulatory reform.

Key contributions came from Deputy Minister Wojciech Wrochna, Piotr Kuś (Director-General of ENTSOG), and Vice Presidents of Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE), Bartosz Fijałkowski and Jacek J. Drózd.

The discussion was structured around three key themes:

Energy security and infrastructure investment: Against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical instability and strained global supply chains, participants stressed the urgency of building resilient and sustainable energy systems. Deputy Minister Wrochna outlined plans to modernize Poland’s transmission grid, while OSGE highlighted progress on BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in North America and potential deployment in countries such as Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

Industrial competitiveness and energy affordability: Speakers noted that rising energy costs remain a critical barrier to maintaining Europe’s industrial edge. There was a strong call for reducing regulatory complexity and enabling the swift uptake of energy-efficient technologies. Piotr Kuś emphasized the importance of reinforcing gas infrastructure to support the transition, especially in light of slow electrification in key industrial sectors.

Climate policy and regulatory alignment: The debate addressed recent EU initiatives including the Clean Industrial Deal, ETS2, CBAM, and the Affordable Energy Action Plan. Participants stressed the importance of implementing these tools in a way that is predictable and equitable. The discussion highlighted the need to safeguard vulnerable sectors, ensure sufficient free emission allowances, and strengthen alignment between climate ambitions and industrial realities.
