Agenda

On 18 February 2025, the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) organised a high-level roundtable at the European Parliament titled “Driving Competitiveness for Businesses: Towards a Simplification and Reduction of the EU Legislative Framework – Is the Omnibus Package Enough?” The event was hosted by MEP Michał Kobosko (Renew Europe) and brought together legislators, business stakeholders, and policy experts to examine the European Commission’s upcoming Omnibus Proposal aimed at easing administrative and reporting obligations.

The discussion explored how to strike a balance between regulatory streamlining and the EU’s broader legislative goals, particularly in the context of ongoing green and digital transitions. Participants considered the potential of the proposal to strengthen business competitiveness, reduce compliance burdens, and improve the capacity of SMEs to navigate complex requirements.

Key topics included the risks of duplicative obligations, the need for greater use of digital tools in reporting, and the importance of harmonised implementation across Member States. Contributions from representatives of DG GROW, the Council of the EU, national Permanent Representations, and Members of the European Parliament reflected strong institutional engagement in the effort to modernise the EU’s regulatory environment.
