Agenda

On 20 February 2025, the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP), in partnership with the European Enterprise Alliance (EEA), held a high-level debate at the European Parliament titled “Building a Fair E-Commerce Landscape: Addressing Cross-Border Challenges.” The event was hosted by MEP Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, co-hosted by MEP Dora David, and featured a keynote by Dariusz Standerski, Secretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs. The debate brought together over 80 participants, including EU legislators, digital policy experts, and representatives from the private sector.

The discussion focused on the expanding role of non-EU e-commerce platforms and the regulatory and enforcement issues they present within the EU market. Participants explored how existing and upcoming legislation, such as the Digital Services Act (DSA), can be leveraged to ensure fair competition, strengthen consumer protections, and close compliance gaps across borders.

Key themes included the need for more harmonised enforcement of EU rules, improved cooperation between customs and digital regulators, and the development of effective mechanisms to hold platforms accountable. Speakers called for modernising the EU’s digital and trade policies to reflect the realities of global commerce while fostering innovation and preserving consumer trust within the Single Market.
